I heard about Páramo clothing a decade ago when friends raved about this revolutionary clothing company. For the Greenland Icecap I wanted the very best clothing to take on a challenging polar environment with varied and extreme weather conditions. I decided to use Páramo.
Salopettes are ideal to pull a pulk- warmer plus more comfortable, reducing friction from the harness. I tried many pairs, but finding Paramo's Aspira salopettes, I immediately decided they were unparalleled. Unlike Gore-Tex, they're more breathable and offer greater warmth, dispensing with unnecessary, voluminous underlayers.
We encountered a huge temperature range on the icecap (+20 to -45°C). The full length zips were really helpful. Whilst skiing I unzipped them even on the coldest days, zipping them back up during rests - an efficient system to regulate my temperature as it's so versatile and fast.
I coupled the Aspira salopettes with the Ladies' Aspira Smock - extremely breathable and simultaneously warm. It offered great protection from the wind so, even at -40°C, I wore just a thermal under. The hood is a good size and the large pockets very useful to keep my GPS warm and to hand.
Páramo kept me dry and comfortable through continuous use during long days skiing and nights camping onthe ice. I was one of the only members in the team of eight not to suffer cold injuries despite my poor circulation. I'm very grateful to Páramo for inventing such useful clothing, heartily encouraging anyone to invest in it.
